Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ D-Link DWA-125: Fast and Reliable Wireless N-150 Mbps USB Wi-Fi Adapter by Lyle Stepp

Works well, a bit clunky - UPDATE 9/16/13

This item was rather uncomfortable for me. First of all, the adapter is larger than hoped for. The cover that covers the USB plug of the adapter does not snap onto the other end during use, leaving you with a loose cover that you need to do something with to avoid losing it. The installation of the card is quite clumsy, not plug and play; I had to go to the DLINK site to find the drivers. I know it's not a big deal, but these days I'm used to things like that just because I'm on Windows 7. And finally, I found that the card is actually very slow. Assuming it's an 802.11N device, it looks more like 802.11B. I haven't bothered to see if I can figure out what might be wrong with it, but I'm using the latest drivers available. However, it works for what I need. I think there is an adapter to carry while calls are supported. I can live with the speed. But next time I would buy a different adapter. Updated - Just a small note: I found that the slowness I reported in my original review was caused by channel congestion. The status screen in Windows shows that the speed fluctuates between 40 Mbit/s and 1 Mbit/s despite good signal strength. The router I connected this to was using channel 11 in the 2.4GHz band and after scanning I found that there are several other Wi-Fi signals in my area on that channel. I switched to channel 6 and now this adapter is running at full rated speed and much better. So this is good news; The bad news is that none of my other devices showed such sensitivity to this channel congestion. So be aware that this adapter is particularly sensitive to this. If you live in a place where there are a lot of hotspots, you should consider another option.
