Review on πŸ”§ Direct Replacement Nutone Diameter Packard by Maxwell Thomas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits perfectly. - Electrical

I used this motor to replace the motor on an old Nutone kitchen extractor fan, probably from the 1960's or so. I didn't and still don't have a model number or a way to identify them exactly, but I've included a picture of the internal grille in case anyone sees they have a similar model, assuming they were then sold as a whole. .Because this is just an engine, the bracket and fan blade had to be removed from the old engine and placed on top of it. If someone is replacing a similar model to mine, SAFELY KEEP THE SEALS. Without spacers you either have to find new ones or use spare screws to slightly move the fan blade away from the socket/plug or you risk damaging the power cord when you turn it on. This motor is designed for a case having an outlet along the connecting passage. If your fan was previously hardwired (I'm not sure if one was) you will either need to change the wire at the motor or install an outlet nearby. I also don't recommend it unless you really know what you're doing, but even then there are other engines for each specific use, so DO YOUR RESEARCH AND FIND THE EXACT ENGINE THAT FITS YOUR NEEDS. The fan I was working on used a pull chain both as a switch and to open the exhaust damper. I temporarily used nylon cord while waiting for a replacement string of beads to arrive. Please note that without the ability to activate the switch in both on/off positions, this fan will either run all the time or not at all until you at least find a way to use the switch built into your fan case in cases like mine. For me it's a small button that rests on a metal bracket with a chain running over it. When the button is pressed (live in the pull chain) the fan turns off and stays off until the button is released. The fan then spins freely until there is voltage that keeps the button pressed. If you are working on a replacement for a similar model, it is advisable to set the fan switch to the OFF position. If for some reason this isn't possible, or you're just being stubborn, make sure the fan is unplugged until you install it. Once it's in place and ready to connect, make sure the button is depressed (either via the chain tensioner or otherwise) and take all your fingers off the blades. While I don't think the motor is powerful enough to chop off your fingers, it will definitely be quite painful, so be careful. I wrote this lengthy review in hopes of helping any homeowner who might be inclined. replace yourself. If you can afford it, just hire someone to do it. But I know that not everyone has the financial capacity to pay for work that they could easily do themselves. This is not difficult, just be careful and cautious.
