Review on Enhance Your In-Car Control with Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Interface by Nicholas Serafini

If you know how it works, it works with Chinese Android head units.

My regular Ford radio worked the same as the typical Ford radio, the LEDs didn't light up so it's time to replace it. I replaced it with a typical Chinese Android head unit. The typical Chinese head unit came with no instructions. Typical. So I searched the internet for a typical installation of Chinese head units on Android. I realized I needed an interface, so I bought a METRA AXTC-FD1 INTERFACE FOR WHEEL CONTROLS AND ACCESSORIES. Well, to my usual luck, that device didn't work, so I called Metra. The nice people at Metra told me I bought the wrong interface. The interface I bought was only good for my car if I had factory navigation. I was told I needed an ASWC-1 device and I bought it. It went in very easily, but it didn't work either. I called Metra back and explained it wasn't working. They told me that ASWC-1 is not designed to work with Chinese Android devices, but when I try to change the main unit manufacturer from one recognized by ASWC-1 to another from the compatibility list using the ASWC Configuration-Axxess Updater program , through trial and error and error I was able to find one that would work. I went to the PAC Audio website. They sell a device similar to ASWC-1 called SWI-RC-1. This device is not automatically configured on the head unit, but must be programmed via DIP switches. I went through their compatibility list and found "2-Wired Resistive" and "Android Radio". Both used the same settings. I then searched for a brand that uses the same settings and was also on the ASWC-1 compatibility list and found that Visteon uses the same settings as "Android Radio" on the PAC device and also on the ASWC-1 - Compatibility list is available. . I configured the ASWC-1 to recognize the head unit as a Visteon using the ASWC Configuration-Axxess Updater program, reinstalled the head unit, programmed the head unit to recognize the pressed buttons on the steering wheel and everything worked. In short, for this device to work with a Chinese Android head unit: 1) Make all connections according to the ASWC-1 instructions and any information you may have about the head unit. 2) Install the ASWC-1 in the car and turn the car key to the on position. 3) Let ASWC-1 recognize the vehicle. 4) Turn off the car and remove the ASWC-1 unit. 5) Connect the ASWC-1 device to the computer with a USB cable according to the instructions. 6) Download ASWC Configuration-Axxess Updater. 7) Select SWC Configuration and then Visteon from the drop down menu. 8) Disconnect the ASWC-1 from the computer and reinstall the ASWC-1 in your car 9) Assign functions to each button on the main unit 10) Enjoy!
