Review on Gateron Brown Switch QMK Keychron K3 Pro 84 Key Wireless Ultra-Slim Mechanical Keyboard RGB Backlit by Adam Kowalski ᠌

A valuable purchase, some advantages!

After almost 3 years of using K3 (the first version), I got really tired that the cmd key in Windows is alt, and the option is win. Since my main OS is macos, the habit of switching the language via cmd + space broke every time in Windows, because instead of win + space you press alt + space. Software rebindings like powertoys do not work well, so I took K3 Pro almost without looking, since it has a hardware rebinding, and this problem was instantly solved - rebinding is done super simply through the VIA utility. However, K3 and K3 pro have incomplete continuity, I will describe their differences: * keycaps on PRO do not shine through, so in pitch darkness the inscription is not visible (perhaps this is a feature of 2022 caps), but on a regular K3 it is visible. in total, the purpose of the backlight on the K3 PRO is not clear to me personally - it is visible only in the millimeter gaps between the keys * different shapes of keycaps - if the surfaces are approximately the same, then the bottom of the PRO cap is much larger, therefore, in general, narrower gaps between the keys are obtained. Single keycaps are interchangeable between k3 and k3pro, but wide ones are not (like backspace). * k3 pro only comes with gateron switches, and in k3 I had keychron switches. when choosing the type of switch for a new keyboard, I did not look into the table with their descriptions, and took, as I used to, brown (since I had quiet red on k3 at first, but they turned out to be too sensitive, and were replaced by brown, which I was pleased with ). in fact, the brown switch on the pro is harder, and makes a strong dull sound, without tactile feedback (I don’t like it at all), while the k3 keychron brown is softer and makes a quiet but pleasant click * k3 pro has 3 mechanical levels of lifting legs, in k3 v1 the legs are glued once * k3 pro battery life up to 100 hours, k3 - up to 70, depending on the backlight configuration. (actually the k3 has to be charged every 2 days with daily programming and with a static 80% white backlight) In the photo, the keyboard is on top - K3 PRO, on the bottom - K3 v1 (keycaps w / d are swapped for clarity)

Pros
  • Compact, supports wireless pairing with three devices, remapping buttons via VIA.
Cons
  • The inscriptions on the keycaps are opaque, which is why there is no highlighting of the characters. That is, the backlight is visible only around the keys, in pitch darkness only the outlines of the keys are visible, but what is written on them is not.
