I like this idea. This article is really handy and useful. I think with a little reworking it could be perfect. But like that, not really. What I LOVE about a yarn dispenser: *Tugs on the outside so the bundles of yarn don't stick together when you get close to the end.*I don't usually do this, but you can pretty easily put a whole skein in here, as well as tug on the outside. * Helps maintain tension even in stitches (usually see below). * Easy to use. * Very light and portable. * Small holes are handy for attaching stitch markers. * Affordable (although it costs more than I expected given the materials it is made of and the sheer simplicity of the item). * A lightly printed ruler on the base would have been handy to check the caliber, although I didn't have to use it (and it would take very good light to see it). But still a nice touch What I do NOT like about the yarn dispenser: * The tack is not smooth out of the box. I occasionally put baby oil, petroleum jelly, etc. under the spindle to ensure smooth rotation.* This non-slip pad consists of a couple of rubber stoppers on the underside. Mine sometimes slips because it's very light when hooked (see below). I cut a square out of a rubber shelf liner to install to make it less likely to slide. helps. Some. * Those spikes at the end of the spindle - WHY, for the love of all good, did they add them? It does NOTHING for functionality. It just gives the yarn a grip as it twists, tangles, ruins my tension, and slows down my overall workflow. 99% of the frustrations I have had with this product have to do with these nicks. Haven't done it yet but plan on sealing them with duct tape or something. This is my main complaint about the product. * When the yarn gets caught in the little notches on the spindle, sometimes, when I don't realize it, it flips over and then flies to the ground. * I have tried several positions etc to avoid the issue of yarn getting caught in the notches on the spindle. I haven't fully mastered it yet, although I can figure it out enough that it's just a small problem, not a big problem, every few minutes. *I have no idea what the "stencil holder" notch is. all about. Like you have to print out the paper, fold it a few times and stick it in there or something? And is it useful in any way? I felt stupid like it should have been obvious but I had no idea. So it's not exactly a disadvantage to have something I don't use, but what? In general? The process improvement of having it work the way I want it outweighs the practical frustration of using it. Love it and would probably buy more for some paint projects. As soon as I fix the notch issue. But if I could find a similar working item without nicks I would be more likely to buy it. Hope that helps!
