Review on ๐Ÿ”‹ Spectra Classic FG91A: Efficient Fuel Tank Sending Unit for Enhanced Performance by Mark Tompkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It works well on non-Chevy vehicles

Note. I've been an auto technician for over 10 years so I understand that new parts don't always fit properly, especially on older cars. I looked at this and other senders long before I bought it. I bought it for a 1970 Cutlass even though the title says it's for a Chevy. I suspect it will fit many of the 1968-1972 GM A-bodies (rear wheel drive of course) since they basically use the same tanks. I compared everything to the old transmitter and it is almost identical in size. The exception is the inlet, which is maybe 1/4 inch higher than the factory one. This is normal because even if fuel is not accumulating at the very bottom of the tank, it is also less likely to accumulate deposits such as rust and dirt, which are also at the bottom. The filter and float look different but work the same. I checked the accuracy before installation by swiveling the measuring arm and comparing it with the manometer reading. It was right. Ultimately, that's what really matters. It only has one line for the vehicles that do NOT have a return line from the fuel pump. A new rubber gasket was supplied to fit between the tank and sensor. There was also an intake filter and of course a float. If you have a Chevrolet, this is your fuel delivery unit. If you have another GM A body from the same era, this will likely work as well. Just compare the picture with your old transmitter to get an idea. I would buy again.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
