I had rust causing a hole between the catalytic converter flange and the B-pipe flange (or any other post-cat pipe). SO I can't use film or tape. This stuff helped greatly reduce the noise, but when you apply it, it's like toothpaste. SO I cleaned the spot as best I could and carefully applied it with a plastic knife and gloves. Then I started the car and the pressure from the exhaust shot straight in. How do you plan to solidify this substance with heat when the heat source is also exerting a positive pressure? So I put it back and grabbed the heat gun. Pick it up and point it at him. After 5-7 minutes (ON HIGH!). I saw the putty expand. In that moment you know that this is the cure. I touched the area on the side and it got hard. I waited until most of it had expanded, then started the engine and let the heat heal from within. It seems to work that way, but requires a serious amount of heat.
