It was perfect. I'm not an aquarist at all, I recently bought a 5 gallon aquarium for my Betta to have more swimming space. I bought sand because I liked it. After reading some reviews and googling how to work with aquarium sand I was a little nervous as it looked like a complicated process but it really wasn't. I opened a sack of sand, put it in a bucket to empty the garbage, there wasn't any, the sand was clean and could have been put in the tank right away. First I filled the tank with sand to keep it cloudy like some reviews say, then I just poured water through the filter part of the tank to keep the sand from flying all over the place again. I had no problems, the sand settled straight away and my betta is fine, I don't know why people said it was going to get in their gills or something and I'm really happy with the look. If you're looking for how much to buy, one bag is the perfect amount for a 5 gallon tank.
