Great Sand!: Aquarium Substrate

I used this sand on a small 3 gallon freshwater tank (Circuit 3 Marineland) that Betta was kept in. The sand was good and clean and fairly fine-grained, but not so fine that the vacuum cleaned it when changing the water. I made sure to rinse the sand before use, but there was almost no clouding of the water during washing. I think it can probably be used without washing as it says on the box. I really like that the sand is coarse enough that it doesn't seem like air pockets are forming (air…

GOOD sand, VERY fine grain, small bag but GOOD quality!

This sand is very fine-grained (pleasant!), without impurities (just sand). The product corresponds to the picture and the description. The bag is small but the sand quality is good. Shipping took longer than other items purchased at the same time; However, it arrived MUCH sooner than the estimated delivery time originally stated. Which in my opinion is much better not delivered than delivered (original delivery was delivered after about 1 month but received after about 2 weeks). I DEFINITELY…

Perfect for a beginner

It was perfect. I'm not an aquarist at all, I recently bought a 5 gallon aquarium for my Betta to have more swimming space. I bought sand because I liked it. After reading some reviews and googling how to work with aquarium sand I was a little nervous as it looked like a complicated process but it really wasn't. I opened a sack of sand, put it in a bucket to empty the garbage, there wasn't any, the sand was clean and could have been put in the tank right away. First I filled the tank with sand…

Great Marine Sand - Fish and Aquatic Animals

I was afraid of changing the substrate in my freshwater aquarium from gravel to sand. I did a lot of research on the subject and decided to take the plunge. I'm so happy I did! The sand looks more natural and cleaner. It's also easier to clean since most of the debris stays at the top instead of sinking deep into the gaps between the stones. A simple pass with a siphon hose removes almost all waste. I occasionally gently mix the top layers of sand to avoid gas pockets, but so far I haven't seen

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • The list will be long.

White but very, very dusty.

UPDATE: I had to move some decorations and plants around the aquarium. The water is white and cloudy again. Even the white matter remained on the sponge filters. I'll take it off soon and switch to another sand company. I used a 5 pound sack to cover the bottom of the Fluval Flex 9 tank to about 1/2 inch. The sand is coarse and very white. However, it is very dusty. The photo of the empty bag shows how much white dust just covers the inside of the bag. You have to rinse this sand out very well…

  • Not bad

After adding this sand to tanks twice, I finally found the answer to the muddy, sandy aquarium elements. water in a bucket of clean water. I put mine in a 5 gallon bucket on the porch and after filling it with sand I fill the bucket 1/2 full with water from the water hose. I shake the water by hand several times a day to stir up as much dirt as possible. I do this for 2 days, then drain and rinse again and drain again. When the tank is empty I pour a bucket of sand into my tank, a handful or…
