Put foil over the sand before adding water to keep it from flying into the water like snow

After adding this sand to tanks twice, I finally found the answer to the muddy, sandy aquarium elements. water in a bucket of clean water. I put mine in a 5 gallon bucket on the porch and after filling it with sand I fill the bucket 1/2 full with water from the water hose. I shake the water by hand several times a day to stir up as much dirt as possible. I do this for 2 days, then drain and rinse again and drain again. When the tank is empty I pour a bucket of sand into my tank, a handful or more at a time and smooth it out as evenly as possible. Then I line a piece with regular foil and completely cover the sand. Slowly add water to a gallon pitcher or so at a time. Be careful not to damage the protective film. When you have collected the required amount of water, slowly remove the liner so that the sand is disturbed as little as possible. You can then use your palm to gently smooth the sand into the desired shape. You should end up with clear water and a smooth sandy bottom. Hope this helps someone. Lorrie
