We used to use foam pads but this one creates a bouncing effect and sounds fantastic when the ball hits it, just like a real goalie. It's harder than you think when you play street hockey. We cut a 4 inch board to about 70 inches and lay it on the floor. The matte target has a gap of about two inches from left to right at the bottom, suggesting that this makes it easier to push the stick through and pick up the balls. . The board creates a blocker to keep the ball from simply rolling. It held up very well but we use street hockey balls, not real pucks like ice pucks etc. It's always fun to yell at 'Goalie' when he does a good 1 timer block and hits the seats! We play about 2 hours and score about 10 goals. again harder than you think and forces you to focus on shooting.
