Oreck PR9100 Sweep N Go

I would give this product 3.5 stars so I have rounded up. I liked that about the vacuum cleaner. The block is easy to assemble, looks well built and is very well designed. It has a large convenient power button on the main unit that can be operated with your foot. The dust container is surprisingly large for a sweeper and is very easy to remove for emptying. The battery is removable for charging or replacement and is easy to use. The battery should last almost 90 minutes with the 9100 (the 8100 is only rated for 30 minutes of use on a single charge), but can be much shorter when used on carpeted floors. The device is well suited for the sweeper and includes an easy to assemble and clean pet hair brush. The handle feels solid, is adjustable in height and has a strap that makes it easier to use. What I didn't like is that the nozzle is quite big and tall and not very maneuverable as the suction head/knob doesn't rotate (the big head allows the device to hold a bigger battery and dust box, so is that's a compromise). I didn't like it when it worked, it could be 1/2 inch from a pet hairball and it wouldn't suck it up (again, this is a sweeper, not a vacuum, so keep that in mind). The unit sounded like it was really struggling going from hardwood to low-pile carpet. The description says it's a commercial device but the manual says it's for home use only which doesn't inspire confidence. I was looking for a quick/easy way to touch up pet hair between vacuuming. . I have found this not to be the right item for my purpose but I would recommend it as a wonderful piece of equipment if you really need a sweeper. I ended up buying the Makita BCL180W 18V Compact Li-Ion Cordless Vacuum, which is also available from Revain for a great price. The Makita block is so well made and so easy to use that I love it. If you want a sweeper get the Oreck 9100, but if you want a basic vacuum with a handle get the Makita.
