I bought this product because I needed a permanent magnet to allow two 12 volt batteries connected in parallel to charge the vehicle in a timely manner, but was able to make movements not turned on with the engine off so my engine battery doesn't lose charge due to two household batteries draining it without my knowledge. It took some time to install the system and get my Chevy van ready for the long haul. But even before I left town, I discovered the solenoid was getting hotter than I could even touch, and my circuit breaker kept working. The weird thing was that I didn't have my inverter or interior lights on (which would have been a bit). All that happened was a solenoid providing power from the alternator to keep two household batteries charged. Nothing on the device indicates that this is a continuous duty device and nothing on the device indicates the amperage. I'm very disappointed that the unit I bought didn't even survive a hike but scared me enough about a possible sudden fire that I unplugged the unit. And since I bought the device in June 2019 and it's now August 2020 I can't even return it for a refund. So it's a complete failure and I would warn other buyers to be aware of this and make sure you test it thoroughly before heading into a desert area and realizing it's not what it should be.
