Review on πŸ”΄ Red Lens Trailer Hitch Cover with 12 LED Brake Light for 2" Receiver by CZC AUTO by Ben Chase

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Perfect for the rear fog light project

As far as plug and play goes, these 4 pin brake light hitch covers all share the same limitations. That is, a 4-pin trailer plug has a left turn, a right turn, an end, and a ground wire. The left and right turn wires also serve as brake light signals. The manufacturer of this brake light coupler cover chose to connect it to the right turn and ground wire. So it stays on when you apply the brake and flashes when you apply the right turn signal, even if you apply the brake at the same time. It is not possible to isolate only the brake light, except with one of these car to car tail light converters like the Tekonsha 118158 2 to 3 tail light converter. Also the hole for the coupling pin is quite far back. To mount it flush with the clutch retainer hole, I drilled another 5/8" diameter hole centered 1 3/4" closer to the end of the brake light than the original hole. This required disassembling the lantern so I could remove the circuit board and wiring. It took 10 seconds to remove the red lens with a trim tool and another 3 minutes with a drill press to drill a 5/8" hole. Well, on the good side, it's really bright. Easily as bright as my car's factory LED. Brake lights, if not a little brighter. It's true red too. Some of the others I've tried actually have white LEDs with a red lens, resulting in a rose-pink color. red lens The 4 pin issue wasn't a problem for me as I simply cut the connector off the clutch cover and plugged it into my car's factory fog lights. That way the light would come on every time I turned on the fog lights. which are essentially rear fog lights as required in Europe.
