Review on Intel Unlocked Skylake Processor BX80662I76700K by Jnis Muinieks ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the best offers, glad I bought it.

Prior to that, there was a Phenom II X4 3.0 GHz processor and all games went with 100% download. Thanks to the i7-7820x, it became possible to play processor-dependent games without crashes, in complex games the maximum load is 20%, and the temperature of the processor rarely exceeds 50 C. In general, an excellent stone, I definitely recommend it for gamers and everyone who works with a large number of applications . The i7-7820x is a real AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X killer, even with its 16 cores. To prevent the processor from heating up immediately, put a good dropsy, I recommend Thermaltake Floe Riing, it is also advisable to install more fans for air inlet and outlet in the aluminum system unit and you will be happy. I do not regret that I switched to Intel, although I sat on AMD for a long time, now I will certainly never return to AMD, I had to switch to Intel earlier, and I kept waiting for a revolution from AMD, because even now their Ryzen is very much inferior to i7 and i9 both in multithreading, hyperthreading, dynamic frequency scaling, and in 4-channel DDR support, and even AMD's transition to 12nm did not affect the performance increase of their processors, in the end this is the case when the cost of the processor really justifies the investment in his means.

Pros
  • Ideal choice for gaming and complex applications: 8 cores, frequency - 3600 MHz, with auto overclocking (10%) - 4000 MHz, with overclocking in turbo mode - 4500 MHz. Support DDR4 2666 MHz. A very powerful processor, high performance in games, with multithreading, you can simultaneously work in AutoCAD, play a game, surf the Internet, watch videos and type text - and all this with minimal processor load - up to 20%. The temperature in stress tests was no more than 50 C (depending on the cooler, I have a Thermaltake Floe Riing RGB 280 dropsy with 3 14 cm fans). It overclocks to a maximum of 32% - 4752 MHz and at the same time all applications work stably (depends on the motherboard, I have an ASUS Rampage 6 APEX overclocking mother). It is possible to overclock to 5GHz, but the stability of work quickly drops, the temperature rises sharply to 80C.
Cons
  • 28 PCI-Express lines, be careful when buying (marketers do not write the number of supported processor lines in the specifications), you can connect only one video card in 16x mode and only 1 M.2 solid-state drive in 4x mode (1 PCI- Express on supported motherboards). To connect several video cards in SLI or 2way-SLI, as well as more M.2 drives, you need 44 lines, and this is another percentage - at least i9-7900x. Strange turbo mode, sometimes when you start some applications, the processor does not automatically accelerate to 3.6 or 3.9 GHz, but operates at a frequency of 1.2 GHz, as a result of which the application does not open as quickly as it should, turbo mode is not always useful, sometimes it is better disabled, it can be disabled in the BIOS. The cost of the processor, but the price justifies its performance.
