Everything about this spice rack is great except for the cheap plastic lids and the gasket (which is also cheap hard plastic, not a rubber gasket). ). Any powdered spice will spill out the sides of the jars if held on its side or tilted to shake out the spices. The lids also tend to come loose if you try to open the plastic valve covering the shaker holes without holding the lid in place. On some lids, the plastic valve sealing the scoop opening would not close. I suspect the last two issues will go away with use. To be honest, I advise against buying it. I tried putting an o-ring around the seal, but the corners of the plastic lid are much sharper than the corners of the glass jar, so there was still a large gap for the spices to seep through. My final solution was to just hot glue the lids onto the jars. This will seal them and allow them to be removed without damaging the jars/lids (although it will take some time and effort to remove). The downside to this method is that the hot glue is a bit tacky, so when I pull out my jars, they also shift their neighbors a bit - fine if you leave your spice set in a drawer like I did, but not so good once it's sitting upright.
