New gadget of love.

It took me a few tries to get started but I know I'm going to love it! Here are some tips I've learned so far: 1) Don't lie. Thread #4 (e.g. Red Heart) cannot be used. A bit disappointing I know. The reason is that it just gets too thick and won't go through the chute. It also gets caught around small hooks and makes a mess and then you have to cut it off. You know I tried anyway! 2) Sport yarn #3 works like a charm and knits a nice tube. That's definitely the weight I would recommend. In my photo an example of dark blue yarn. 3) In my photos, yellow is DMC embroidery floss. Can be suitable for light projects or even ties for gift wrapping. Knits, but less durable than #3 yarn. 4) I attached the device to the edge of the kitchen table. Pretty stable, but I only did it for a quick test run. Actually, I wouldn't install it here for real use. Too high if he staggers and falls. I don't want to damage my new device! 5) At around $28, it was $11 cheaper than Michael's Art Store. 6) Small clips are like mat hooks with a latch. In order for them to work, you need to make sure each hook opens (and closes) every time you skip yarn. 7) First row. The yarn should catch on one clip, skip the next, put the yarn behind it and then hook the third clip. Skip the next one by putting the thread behind it. You can then start your first actual row by catching yarn around what was your first staple (not one of those you missed before!). Nice design.
