We've read many reviews but couldn't find a definitive review, so we decided to test our unfiltered tap water (in Southern California) and our new filtered water from Big Berkey here we are: Results: Our unfiltered tap water was generally accepted by the lab with the following notable exceptions: 1. Arsenic: 2.5 parts per billion (Billion) - the lab deemed this cause for "caution"2. Uranium-238: 3.1 ppb – also "cautious”3. Aluminum: 94 ppb - Caution4. Fluoride: 0.8 parts per million (ppm) - The EPA has not set limits for this category. Here are our results from Big Berkey (using 2 black filters and 2 fluorine/arsenic filters): 1. Arsenic: less than 1 ppb - lab rated "acceptable"2. Uranium-238: Less than 1 ppb is acceptable3. Aluminum: 19 ppb is acceptable4. Fluoride: 0.4ppm (I wonder if we would have used 4 fluorine filters instead of 2 if the fluorine had been completely removed) It should be noted that the lab that tested the water is a professional lab (not a home kit) and there are three levels . Interpretation: acceptable (safe), caution (consider filtering), and unacceptable (contact community and consider alternative sources). The laboratory uses the ICP-MS method for water analysis. Hope that helps. Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with the company. I just wanted to know if the filters work!
