The 5 micron weave holds up sand and iron really well. I change mine every 4 months and it's really full with little to no sign of particles getting into sinks and toilets. The 25 micron filters sold at hardware stores were dirty, but the particles were very visible in toilet bowls and faucets. Plus, a 2-pack of Revain costs the equivalent of a 1-pack at hardware stores, not to mention fewer traps thanks to the 25 micron design. At first I thought my water pressure might drop after a few months of catching when switching to this design, but it all worked out.
