We've been boiling water for tea in a small pot for years, but my husband recently mentioned that it would be nice to have a proper kettle. I arranged for a stainless steel teapot (we've generally had no luck with enamelware) as well as a teapot that's not too big as we have a small kitchen and we almost never make more than 2 cups of tea. for now. After reading descriptions/reviews of numerous similarly designed teapots online I decided to go with them for a number of reasons: The vendors sound like a small company/team which I prefer to support larger companies whenever possible. Also, judging by the description and their website, they thought the design of the teapot was good. Just because products look the same doesn't mean they perform the same and I would prefer a product that had someone thought about fixing design flaws. They tend to last longer and perform better than the junk they release as fast/cheap as possible, engineered abroad for planned obsolescence. I know it was made in China, but at least it was developed in our country! Unlike other similar kettles with thermometers that only show the temperature, this one has clear labels for different teas/coffees that require different water temperatures. Brewing I think (?). We don't really need a thermometer, but if we do, it might be easy to understand so we actually use it for its intended purpose. Purely cosmetic, but I like the light gray color. It's still a nice, neutral color, but it's also a little different from the standard black you'd expect from a product like this. I haven't had an electric kettle long enough to judge its durability, but I noticed a few things. upon receipt - the rivets on the handle are larger than I've seen on many other inexpensive Chinese-made products. They seem to reduce the likelihood of welds breaking over time/use. The plastic part of the handle is bolted to the metal, not glued, meaning it's easy to retighten if it comes loose. Thermometer, as it is the most likely to break with time/use, it can easily be replaced with another thermometer or even a simple pen. Water heats up faster than a pot but I haven't had another kettle like this so I can't compare how fast/slow it is compared to other kettles. Beautiful, classic looks and compact. It fits well in our kitchen and does not overload the stove. Also, after a few years it will most likely not be "outdated" in appearance/color etc. It's also unlikely to start looking tacky since there's no varnish to chip off. The nose flows really very smoothly. MUCH better than pouring boiling water from pots or more traditional kettles if I remember the one my mom has.
