Review on πŸ“Ά CradlePoint CTR35 Portable Wireless N Router by Todd Fernandez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It pairs with Virgin and works as intended!

In-room personal Wi-Fi services at the top of the mountain successfully launched! This router was purchased to provide failover for the school's SOHO implementation as well as a VPN connection to a remote office. Failover: The router handles both the DSL modem and the USB modem just fine, although the DSL connection has a number of issues. Default settings worked well in managing failover and failover, with configured settings failover is smooth with little downtime. In fact, the only downtime is a few seconds while the router looks for a real shutdown and brings the modem back online. USB Data Usage: Although generic, it tracks usage well and offers enough control to prevent overuse. Load Balancing: Although we don't currently use this feature, it has been tested. The default settings require some tweaking for this feature to work properly, but once set up properly, it worked as advertised, eliminating an ISP as a bottleneck. VPN: VPN setup was easy, making the connection more convenient than multiple client-to-site connections, and throughput was good. In short, the default wizard chooses an easier, albeit less secure, VPN method. This is easily solved by unchecking a few boxes. Wireless Network Performance: We have about 32 hosts in total, half of which are wireless. We had no dropouts and overall throughput was good. However, if there is a weakness, it's wireless as it doesn't have the same bandwidth as other radios. (Everything can be improved.) :) Ethernet/LAN: These work as advertised and handle large files with ease. DHCP works well and reservations are easy to manage. Overall: I would definitely recommend this device to anyone who needs more service than your standard consumer router. This has been proven time and time again to be suitable for a small office/home office even with average wireless performance. Buy when you get Virgin or any other USB ISP! Can display and broadcast effectively.,
