It's fine, but don't throw away the colander.

Had a chance to try this last week while toasting a hamburger - tried to drain the fat from the pan but was disappointed they couldn't make it to be used for anything more than thin could. brick cookware. It doesn't fit my cast iron skillet. It doesn't work on my aluminum cookware, but it does work on Teflon-coated pans and Revere cookware (yes, they're 40+ years old and still going strong). I tried again with pasta the next night and it worked fine - unless you have a lot of pasta in the pot - I can't drain it completely (I don't throw away the colander). I think with a few tweaks like adjusting the side clips to expand so you can use them on heavier cookware and maybe adding another inch to the screen could help. (The pan picture above should have a small pan because mine doesn't cover half of the pan. On the plus side, because it's silicone it didn't melt.
