I always trust Sony sound quality and this one is no exception. The ICD-PX720 has a USB connection and is inexpensive. This is a cost-effective alternative to more expensive professional MP3 recorders such as Edirol or Zoom H2. And the Sony recorder is easier to use for non-professionals. Unfortunately, software is required to transfer sound files. The conversion process doesn't bother me as MP3 is not suitable for voice recording anyway. But I really like being able to transfer files to my computer without special software. The ability to use a micro SD card would have been even better. I think I could use my Sony Ericsson Walkman phone if I need these features.
