Sony software for this device does not work on Windows 10. Sony does not have software for it that works on Windows 10 and even software available for other OS versions will no longer be available from Sony after March 2017. If you only have a Windows 10 PC and you need to download files from the voice recorder to your PC, you're screwed. Avoid this apparent dead end. Still works great as a stand alone digital recorder but what a price for such functionality.

Digital Dictaphone Lifesaver

This recorder was a lifesaver in a very difficult class. I no longer try to take handwritten notes just to skip over what was being discussed when I'm writing down what was just discussed. I use a voice recorder with a microphone attached. I listen to recordings (on headphones) before doing tests, which helps a lot in my studies. The sound is a bit tinny, but that doesn't bother me. He does his job and without him I will never go to class again. My mother also uses a Dictaphone when she seesโ€ฆ

Great while it lasts

I was hoping this recorder would last a little longer. I bought it in November 2009 and yesterday (after 19 months) it didn't turn on. All possible end-user tests have been carried out, including using compressed air on the internal circuit board. I will reuse my microtape cartridge until I find another digital replacement. It was good gear. The software was easy to install (Win XP and Win 7) and the recorder set up automatically when connected to a PC. I was able to use an external shotgun mic

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Great sound quality, ease of use

I always trust Sony sound quality and this one is no exception. The ICD-PX720 has a USB connection and is inexpensive. This is a cost-effective alternative to more expensive professional MP3 recorders such as Edirol or Zoom H2. And the Sony recorder is easier to use for non-professionals. Unfortunately, software is required to transfer sound files. The conversion process doesn't bother me as MP3 is not suitable for voice recording anyway. But I really like being able to transfer files to myโ€ฆ

Good recorder but file transfer could be much easier

This is a very good recorder. Based on my tests, it can record the sounds you hear (assuming the voice recorder is nearby ;)). I haven't tested how long the battery lasts. Based on the limited recording I did, it looks like it will definitely take a few hours of recording, which is more than enough for me. The biggest problem with this recorder is the file transfer to the PC. For a device that supports USB transfer, this is the worst implementation you can have. If you want to transfer files to

Very good recorder -- Much better SQ than cheaper Sony models

I have Sony icd b300 and b400 models and the sound quality is not very good even on HQ with noticeable noise and crackling and doesn't come to resemble this model, whether in SHQ or HQ, because they use a different notation system. I added a Sony ecm-ds70p stereo microphone to this recorder, which allows stereo recording in SHQ + HQ mode, which sounds surprisingly good. I use SHQ for live music recording and for voice recording in HQ mode, each offering 12 hours + 18 hours of recording timeโ€ฆ

  • Easy to repair

Suitable for occasional dictation but no more

I have an Olympus DS 330 and bought a Sony as a fallback when I thought the Olympus needed an overhaul (turned out it was just needed to reformat). I dictate quite a bit, both long and short documents. The Sony has large buttons and is easy to use, in the sense that it's easy to press the right button to dictate, stop or listen to what was previously recorded. It also does a good job of overwriting a previous dictation to edit it. However, it does have one major flaw that, in my opinion, makesโ€ฆ

Very small but very durable!

First, let's adjust Revain's size and weight specifications. this item. True measurements: 4.25 inches high, approximately 1.5 inches wide, and 0.75 inches thick. The recorder weighs 3 ounces with batteries installed. I have attached an uploaded photo of a portable voice recorder. The operating instructions are extensive, but the strangely labeled buttons on the dictation machine make it difficult to understand. The slide switch labeled "Hold" on the top left of the recorder toggles it on andโ€ฆ
