Review on 🎨 Vibrant Graphitint Pencils by Derwent - 24 Count Metal Tin (0700803) by Amy Mcleod

I find these pens to have the feel of graphite with a hint of wax

I draw with graphite and was looking for something that would add just a subtle hint of colour. I don't use water. Contrary to other reviewers, I find these pencils come across as graphite with a waxy undertone. The shades are subtle and I would have liked a wider range as many are very similar. I also found the color indicator on the pen misleading, but I found a solution: make test strips and stick them on the pen (see attached photos). Pros: Graphite feels good to me. Good subtle tones give my drawings a depth that I can't achieve with regular graphite, charcoal and carbon. Smooth application. Sharpens well (although they are slightly larger for a regular electric sharpener). Thick core Cons: Won't erase Some shades are too similar to each other, need more reach I would recommend their pencils as they make a great addition to any pencil artist's collection. Note: In my example cat drawing, I used oil pastels for the eyes and an opaque white chalk marker for some of the whiskers and highlights.

Pros
  • High marks for durability and longevity from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other pens
