Description of 🎨 Vibrant Graphitint Pencils by Derwent - 24 Count Metal Tin (0700803)

Graphitint Pencils appeal to artists looking to add dimension to graphite drawings, while retaining the integrity of graphite pencil renderings. Soft and smooth and can be blended to produce an endless array of soft hues. Used dry they provide a hint of color; used wet they transform into rich, vibrant color. Colors can be modified or removed with a soft eraser and clean water. 24 pencils are securely housed in a convenient metal tin.

Ok full disclosure here, I'm by no means an artist. i color I can't draw stick figures that don't look like roman numerals with congenital deformities. So the color rendering issues some people have don't bother me that much. But I LOVE working with these pens! There is enough color to achieve gentle coloring, but it feels softer and more natural than regular colored pencils. I also love how they look with shiny metallic crayons. A great addition to a serious color media library.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • No instructions

Very small color palette in a tin of 12

These pens are exactly as advertised. They fit well and give beautiful shades. However, I was very disappointed with the color scheme. Mostly brown and gray tones. There is a blue near gray, 2 greens are shown, but slate green is near gray, port is a shade of brown. Aubergine, as shown in the diagram, is great for shadows and is definitely purple. I wanted some color in my finished drawing so I finished it off with colored pencils as there was no yellow or orange and I needed at least 2 greens.

  • Don't waste too much time

Where's my metal suitcase?

I received my Drawwent Graphtint 24 Count today. They arrived within two or three days, which made me very happy, but when I received them they had to be completely enclosed in a Durwint metal bowl with a top and bottom. I guess I should have known better when the ad for them said "Only one left" because mine came without a top cap. I was disappointed because the metal tin is a good storage container for 24 $43 crayons. lol. Well I kept them because they are Derwint graphic shades and I already

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Limited palette for drawing

Derwent is usually the best but lacks Graphitint pencils. When water is added, they quickly become cloudy at first, without water they become dark and waxy. The palette claims 24 individual colors, but there are actually only about 10. It lacks the yellow base, orange, and variations in blue and brown crayons. If you use these pencils for abstract or complex compositions, they quickly become cloudy and darken with water. A good workaround is to use very light graphite or easily water soluble…

I find these pens to have the feel of graphite with a hint of wax

I draw with graphite and was looking for something that would add just a subtle hint of colour. I don't use water. Contrary to other reviewers, I find these pencils come across as graphite with a waxy undertone. The shades are subtle and I would have liked a wider range as many are very similar. I also found the color indicator on the pen misleading, but I found a solution: make test strips and stick them on the pen (see attached photos). Pros: Graphite feels good to me. Good subtle tones give…

Pros
  • High marks for durability and longevity from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other pens

Unique product with unique results

Translucent, mostly easy to remove, miscible with water. They are more like watercolor pencils that feel like graphite than colored graphite pencils that can be used with water. They don't mix DRY at all. Not a single stroke with the stir stick, no matter how many coats you apply. I think they should use a hard pigmented wax (or maybe gum arabic?) and some graphite, otherwise all the colors will turn gray and muddy. However, they mix quite well with water, and the pigments come to life with a…

Not what I expected, I really like them!

I wasn't sure. The reviews were so all over the place I really wasn't sure what I was getting. I have 24 cans of Derwent watercolor pencils that I hardly use, but once I had them I really liked them. Strangely (and maybe I didn't use enough water) watercolor pencils didn't seem to be activated by water the way these graphite pencils do. I used them for my two horse paintings and used water on one but left the other dry. Very subtly I can see the different colors of black and gray that I used in

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
