Our hearth died suddenly and completely. Used this for cooking while we waited for the desired assortment change. It worked great for cooking all types of food on the stove: soups, pasta, vegetable stews, eggs, etc. Pans tend to slide over the heating elements. Each burner has 10 settings and both heat up very quickly. The large burner gets very hot even on low settings. For example, eggs fry quickly on heat setting 2. The burners cycle on and off, which I think should prevent overheating at any given setting. The instructions state that the heating elements can be lifted to clean the pallets. Without removing the screw in the middle of each element, they cannot be lifted. However, a good product at a very moderate price.
