I use this product to slice apples and when I say apples I mean LARGE apples, 3" to 3-1/2" in diameter. First of all I would like to point out that the blades of this food slicer are very, very sharp. I told my wife they are razor sharp so be very careful! But it's the sharpness of each blade that makes this product easy to use. This slicer cuts an apple into 12 slices and unless the blades are that sharp you will never be able to slice tougher apples. Then place a cutting board under the apple so you don't cut the surface of the countertop. After placing the apple on the cutting board, it's important to line up the cutter with the center line of the apple core by looking down through the center of the corer. After leveling, gently run the food slicer simply by notching the skin. Then, just when you think you're in the spotlight and ready to slice, grab the slicer firmly and with a burst of energy, press down firmly on the slicer with both hands, and don't stop until you feel it touched cutting board . . If you stop, you may find it difficult to start again. Once done, the apple slices are conveniently positioned for you to pull them out of the slicer and the core is also positioned for easy removal. Finally, I carefully remove the remaining apple peel and small pieces of apple from the slicer and wash them with hot water. Dry the food slicer carefully with a towel from above (sharp edges downwards). This is one of the biggest time savers I've seen. About a month ago I wanted to start eating an apple (sliced) every day and I know I wouldn't be sticking to that habit if I didn't have this device to make it so easy. I highly recommend this slicer!
