Review on πŸ”’ Enhanced Security: Black Pop and Lock for Toyota Tacoma 2005-2015 by Gilbert Cokky

Functions for 3 months of daily use

I installed this on my truck before living out of my truck August-October 2019. I paired this locking handle with a tonneau to protect my belongings. in the back of my truck. Installation was easy and straight forward, it looked a lot like an OEM grip and it was easy to route a rear camera. The handle design definitely feels a little flimsy and it definitely feels like something to be careful with, it's not exactly a good attribute for a truck part. As for durability, I read tips on TacomaWorld. It suggested buying a can of graphite lock grease and spraying it in the locking mechanism first, and each time it felt difficult. I locked and unlocked the tailgate 10-15 times a day because all my kitchen equipment was right in the tailgate. I've ridden over 12,000 miles in a wide range of conditions, the only time I've had trouble picking the lock was after the previous day's wet snow followed by an overnight freeze. I used a small butane torch for 5-10 seconds and the lock returned to normal. So if you are in a frost zone and need to rely on opening this I would be cautious. Overall, the fragile feel and one time freeze is outweighed by the functionality I have experienced with this product. He kept all my stuff safe and only let me down once. I think graphite grease preventative maintenance is a reasonable price for a feature that should be stock.

Pros
  • Tailgate locks
Cons
  • Basically ok but...
