Review on KEF Standmound Speakers Gloss Black by Alex Winnick

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Balanced and engaging

I honestly think the one star review here is a troll who likes B and W or very pronounced highs, not that there's anything wrong with being someone who does those things loves but giving them one star is wrong. The ratings of these pillars from professionals are very high. They are praised for their balanced sound of mids, highs and lows, which is still captivating. The reviewer in this thread who tagged them probably prefers over-the-top tones in speakers, and that's fine. However, most prefer a very neutral and balanced sound. I personally want to hear exactly what the artist meant. The highs are clean and crisp without tiring, the mids are full-bodied and definitely present. As for the bass, it gets LOW because of the size of the body and the dedicated bass driver. Not boomy though, precise, concise and authoritative when needed (for a bookshelf). I've heard many speakers in my time and while they are probably inferior to the B and W 706 in treble extension and emphasis, they have VERY GOOD TREBLE in my opinion. I've compared them to my b and w wedge which uses the current b and w 600 series tweeter and the highs are much better. Please go online and read the review of these speakers for the real story. These are the best I've ever had and I will keep them for a long time.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Expandable

All engineering and no music makes KEF a dull boy.
