Review on πŸ”‹ Kingston HyperX Impact 8GB DDR4 2666MHz CL15 SODIMM Laptop Memory (HX426S15IB2/8) by Michael Boyd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Undiscovered *WIN*: Internals

I bought my computer over a year ago, it had 16 gigabytes of RAM. That should be enough, right. I used a memory scan from some manufacturers' websites and the results say 16 gigabytes is the limit. Although I could go as high as 2666MHz. Just for fun and laughs, I used the computer manufacturer's website to run a full system scan for potential problems. The results showed that my motherboard was good up to 32 gigabytes. Many tests stated 16 max, HP said 32 max, so I took a chance and went for a 16 bar, which gives a total of 24 gigabytes. I usually rely on Corsair, but this time I went with HyperX. The moment of truth came when I went into the Revain locker, picked up my package and headed home. The worst that can happen is I have trouble removing, installing, reassembling the bottom cover on my laptop and it doesn't work. Good thing Revain has a good return policy. After easily and carefully removing the bottom, then replacing one of the 8GB sticks with a new 16GB stick, I snapped open the bottom just to run and hope for the best. For the first thirty seconds or so, all I saw was the power light turning on. Then the screen lit up and the usual cold boot began. I let everything boot up, load drivers and go into my system profile. What do you know, the HP scan was correct. He saw 24 gigabytes, and 24 of them were usable. But it doesn't stop there. Since the upgraded RAM was a success, I can't use the Hyper-X on one side with the Value Ram that came with the machine. I go to Revain and immediately ordered the same in 8 gig. I know it's more right when two equals work together. But the 24th is enough to notice a lot more momentum in my speech. One day I'll get another 16 gigs to make up for it. I might even choose 2666. But for now, I'm happy with the improvements it's made to my PC, which was once considered non-upgradable. I wouldn't deduct a star for the storage itself, but for the ease of installation. Installing storage is easy these days. But cracking the HP by removing the bottom is a tricky task if you don't have the right tools (which I do) and don't want to leave a mark on the outside of the machine. It's not Kingston's fault, I have a "compressed" machine so I'll leave it at 5. In short, I took a chance and won a small jackpot with the results. Bonus: It comes with a high quality decal. I'm a guy, and the guy WILL put a free sticker somewhere. Whether on the lid of your laptop or under the lid of our tool box. Mine looked great on top of my car with the black on red mods I made for its aesthetic.
