This is the best splice kit available in my opinion. This kit includes high quality aluminum feeds and a push rod in a beautiful package. The instructions are also very good, although the knotting instructions are always difficult to follow. I recommend the YouTube video hosted by New England Ropes. Combine this with the included Samson instructions and you should have no trouble splicing. Pay close attention to the exact measurements and make sure your lining size matches the rope. Because these linings are aluminum, they slide well on the rope. I also doubt that cheap plastic chucks will work. Aluminum is also well able to handle the stress required to push the line through the rope's tight casing. The cable has a "Short Fid" marking to measure the correct connection length. This mark is engraved on the lead and this mark is actually connected to the sheath of the rope during connection. If it's causing severe irritation, it may need a little filing to allow food to pass more easily.
