I'm tired of being shocked by a wire that should be dead, so I went in search of a voltage bar. In all honesty, anyone who works remotely near electricity should invest in one of these, maybe not an HVAC unit that measures temperature, but if you ever open a box, under the right circumstances, this thing could save your life . The one I have is the one that measures IR temperatures, to be honest it's an extremely niche market, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who doesn't deal with HVAC, but some electricians can prove me wrong by using say they like to know when a wire is hot without touching it. It won't be as accurate as higher-end thermometers, although I've noticed that it reads fairly accurately when pointed to the right spot, but again, it doesn't even replace a basic metal probe thermometer. NCV has saved me from electrocution at least 5 times in the two weeks since I bought it. I could have done with a cheaper version without IR but it's about me, long story short I would recommend it to anyone involved in electrical engineering or anyone who has ever worked with sockets.
