Review on πŸ“€ Iomega 32214 Predator CD-RW Drive: External 24x10x40 USB 1.1 and 2.0 Compatibility! by Mike Meyers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works fine with CD and DVD drives

I've been using Iomega products for seven years now and have never had any issues with their stability on PC and Mac. (Previous versions of Zip drives were a whole different story, if you know what I mean.) The Predator has proven to be a reliable burner with decent speeds - assuming you have USB 2.0, that is. Without USB 2.0, the Predator achieves 4x4x6 speeds, which Iomega believes is a limitation imposed by the slower USB 1.1. I'm not sure if I'll actually get the maximum speed on my workhorse Win2k PC with a USB 2.0 adapter card, but I'm glad I can create a 60 minute audio CD in about 5 minutes. The Predator is quick and easy to install and, like most new recorders, features buffer underrun technology to prevent typing errors. My previous external HP writer was annoyingly sensitive to buffer underruns, crashing half of all my writers even when the development software was the only app running. I've had less than a 10% bounce rate on Predator. Maybe even less than 5%. And I can actually surf a lot of websites while burning CD-Rs, which I couldn't even dream of with HP. The Predator is a great product and looks really cool, which cannot be said for most PC peripherals. Please note that this product does not work on Macintosh computers. Win98, WinME, Win2k and WinXP only.
