The machine runs at a fairly low speed, which makes it fairly quiet. The degree of grinding is sufficient. After 4 uses, the grinder had a problem and wouldn't start without me "tampering" with it (unplugging, changing grind size, etc.). If you pull from the container after the grind is complete, a significant amount of the grounds will fall to the bottom of the machine and about a tablespoon of the grounds will remain in the machine, requiring you to unplug and "shake out", wasting the coffee. good with me!
