Just installed - happy so far

I installed this in my oversized 2 car (24' x 24') garage over the weekend. The door is insulated, the walls appear to be the same but the ceiling is not (a future project). I used wire 8-2 on a 30A double switch. I have yet to install the breaker box so I can more conveniently turn it off completely near the heater. With the shutdown box, I have just under $100 for components to install. Aside from running the cable, installation is straightforward and straightforward, although instructions are a bit lacking. If you can install a ceiling fan, then it's about the same. The air escaping the block appears warm from several meters away. The fan is a bit louder than I was hoping, but not bad. I would compare it to a normal box fan at medium to low speed. After completing the initial warm-up, with the switch in the "high" (6k watts) position, I flipped the switch slightly higher to the minimum setting. Last night, with an outside temperature of 37F, I was able to work comfortably in a t-shirt, light hoodie, and jeans while cleaning my garage. Sometimes I got too hot. However, if I'm lying on concrete and touching cold metal while working on the car, I might wish it were a little warmer. I'm waiting for the delivery of the thermometer to find out exactly what temperature the device keeps in the garage. The unit ran about every 25 minutes and ran for 4 minutes to hold the temperature. That seems pretty reasonable/ideal to me. Basically I am satisfied with the device. It took longer than expected to warm up initially, so I'm a little worried about how quickly it can warm up the garage if I turn it off completely when not working in the garage. . I'm also worried about how much it will cost to run it on low settings in the winter to keep the temperature comfortable if I take this route. It is not uncommon to experience several weeks of high single digit temperatures during the first few months of the year.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Blunt hardware
