I was surprised by the size but after using it I just love it. Grids are a lot simpler than my old graters. The base is sturdy and the stainless steel grater is nice and sharp. The slicer really works and my old graters were so bad I NEVER used this feature. Now maybe I cut the most. Potato pancakes used to be a problem, but now this new grater makes grating them easy and we're serving pancakes more often! The grater is large and stands on my counter. But since we use it all the time. I really don't mind. Quick and easy slicing of cucumbers for salad. Appetizers of fresh raw vegetables and grated cheese in different dishes. PS Don't forget the supplied protective glove. I actually bought a new grater because I was looking for a protective glove for my husband.
