Review on 🎯 Ataraxia Precision Filament with Resealable Dimensional Accuracy by Michael Reynolds

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good thread as long as the price doesn't go up much more.

I print exclusively in PETG, it falls somewhere between what I expected from PETG and my memory of the PLA price drop. (Pictures added for verification. Model is a Satsana air duct for mounting a MicroSwiss hot end) Support was from the build platform only, the model required very little cleaning as I would expect from any decent PETG after kit . I'm printing this at between 230c and 235c depending on the part and a wall speed of 30mm/s on a slightly modified Ender 3 V2 and it comes off smoothly. The first layer of 20 mm/s gives excellent results for me. Tension is a little less of an issue than other PETG filament I've printed with, although it can still be an issue. I am using a retract speed of 25mm/s along with a linear feed dialed in for my setup. 80C on a bed with hairspray sticks well and comes off, as I would expect, with a light, sharp slap in the face of a jeweler with a nylon hammer when the bed reaches 60C cooling. Warping doesn't seem to be a problem any more than any other PETG I've used. If you warp, lower the temperature of the bed and use a very light mist of hairspray to help the bed stick and release. This thread has been a bit picky about retract settings. I ended up with 4.6mm at 25mm/s along with a K value of 2.2 with a narrower Capricorn tube, although this varies from setup to setup. 0.2mm either way made a big difference in tension, as did trying to get faster on the retract. I only got it because of the color. There are almost no options for purple PETG. The color is very close to Pantone 2685C but slightly less saturated. Overall a very pleasant purple, but not as deep as I originally expected. Remarkably, the color does not change over the entire printing temperature range indicated on the spool, as I have seen with another purple filament I have tried before. The only thing I wish they would change the reel design. Some other spools I have have cutouts on the side with approximate markings so you can tell how much thread is left on the spool. (I now realize this appears to be a main spool, but no filament is available to thread it). Take it out of the printer to weigh it. No minus, other coil designs are just better. The vacuum bag is a pretty nice bonus and can easily hold 2 x 1kg PETG spools and holds the pressure very well. As long as it stays under $20 a roll I'll probably keep buying it. If it goes any higher, I'll stick to whatever threads I have left. The price here is already up $1 since I bought my single coil 2 weeks ago, but I'm pretty sure I got it at the starting price. I would like this color to be available directly from Ataraxia Art, but I can only find it here with markup sourced from that platform. s speed for walls 20 mm/s first coat 60% cooling of parts after first few coats to combat stress IF <20 USD/kg: 5/5 stars IF 20-23 USD/kg: 4/5 stars (wk I would consider it is too expensive to justify regularly) IF > $23/kg: 2/5 stars (this would be too expensive considering the filament has no special properties compared to any decent consistent PETG I have in my personal stash) April 7, 2021 Price was $17.49/kg April 25, 2021 Price is now $18.49/kg.
