Review on Finnex Digital Temperature Controller Heater by Andy Edwards

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to use, precise control. No drowning to change the pace.

This unit is located outside the aquarium, allowing you to control the heating element in the aquarium without getting your hands wet. It remembers your settings, so power loss isn't a big problem. The display is nice and bright and the numbers are big and easy to read around the room. To use it, connect the desired heating element (sold separately) to the control box and lower the sensor from the control box into the tank to a location where it is not next to the heating element (you want the average temperature in the tank, not the temperature next to the heating element ). Set your desired temperature and the heating element will cycle on and off to maintain the correct temperature. If you have large, inquisitive or toothy fish you may need to protect the sensor in the aquarium, try hiding it with decor or placing a plastic tube over spots they can easily reach. My two-spot fox face often duels him. My harlequin wrasse used to tug at it, chew it and drag it along. Although it has a suction cup for attachment, they love to play with it. You may need to use a separate method to take the temperature for a day or two as it can vary a degree or two from the water temperature. I keep my tank at 79 but if I set it to 79 it goes up to 80. A simple fix is to set it to 78 and it will always be correct at 79. The control unit can control various elements. My box works with a 500w or 800w element. Large tanks require larger elements. Speak to a fish specialist if you are unsure of which power to purchase. I have 800 watts for a 120 gallon brine tank. It turns on and off for short periods several times a day. Your heating elements are encased in beautiful, durable plastic, so you won't burn your fish or plastic items. eheim in tank heaters for ease of use and accuracy.
