This is a different experience

***** Update 2016/12/15 ****** I did some test prints and this seems to be the best temperature extrusion settings. Temperature: 190°C to 200°C gives the best surface finish. 210C+ (I've tested up to 235C) started to have a rougher, more bubbly finish. 190C does not have very good interlayer adhesion. 200C has very good adhesion. Extrusion: Range 0.95-1.05 tested. It looks like an extrusion ratio of 1.00 seems to be the best setting, which is usually the default anyway. A range between 0.98 and 1.02 seems like a good or acceptable range. Outside of this range, the surface finish appears to degrade equally. I still really like this thread, but it's still quite expensive. ****************************** ********** This is my first carbon fiber PLA and I was very surprised by the end quality of this filament and possibly other carbon fiber filaments but I'll start with this. wanted to try this filament because I needed something more flexible than PLA but not as stiff and easy to print as ABS. Here it is. After watching a few videos about carbon fiber I decided to give it a try. I don't have more to say than everyone else, it's just a very different experience. Firstly, I always bought 2lb (1kg) spools and this thread seemed CHEAP! Well when it arrived the spool was light and ended up being half the size which makes this filament really expensive almost twice the price of the average filament. I also buy a stainless steel nozzle for this as it can be tough on the nozzles. However, it prints well with a 0.4mm nozzle, but as far as wear and tear goes, we'll see how it performs. I have a 0.5mm nozzle, I'll try it after a few details. The filament is very brittle and the filament breaks in the event of feeding problems. This filament likes to be fed directly through the extruder as often as possible. I have a Makerbot that twists the filament about 3-4 times before it enters the extruder. My machine is not set up that way. All of my filament is held on the outside so it's almost a straight shot through the extruder. Just a note for Makerbot owners. If other carbon fiber filaments aren't as good just because of the price, I don't think I will buy this filament again.
