Review on ๐Ÿšฒ DT Swiss MTB Rear Steel Hub - 135mm DT RWS Skewer by Francisco Taylor

Good option for secure wheel attachment

I bought this to use on a bike with a Rohloff hub and horizontal dropouts. Rohloff has a quick release axle that works better with vertical or semi-vertical dropouts. This is because the Rohloff chain requires a taut chain to operate and usually there is nothing to take up the slack. (You can add a tensioner.) Add a tendency for QR-held hubs to "creep" forward (the chain wants to pull them that way) and you could be in trouble. Using this QR and Surly's chain hoist worked well. They work like a small ratchet wrench. You tighten, lift the knob (spring-loaded), turn counterclockwise, loosen, and tighten a little more. It's very easy to overdo it (see other comments on the guy who broke two bushings) so don't rush it. Another plus is that the stylus can point when you want it, which isn't always possible with QR and some exceptions.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • The list will be long.
