I admit I've used these bits for DIY projects, I'm by no means an expert but I've tested these bits. It should be fine if you are new to routing. I highly recommend watching some DIY tutorial videos, it will help you get the most out of your router bits. Problems such as workpiece breakage from cutting in the wrong direction and drill damage when attempting to remove too much material in one pass. 1/4" shank bits, but for large projects and frequent use, a 1/2" shank bit is usually recommended.
