I had high hopes that this product would provide an inexpensive way to burn vinyl and cassettes to CD. But so far I am very disappointed with the results. The hardware seems to work well, but the software is very unreliable. Out of half a dozen attempts to burn vinyl to CD, the product only worked properly once. Included with Nero SoundTrax is an LP to CD conversion wizard that should do everything you need to do: burn an LP, automatically detect tracks in a recording, filter out clicks and crackles, and finally burn a CD. But this program often crashed or froze, not what you want after spending 40 minutes recording both sides of the LP. Sometimes this is a symptom of low memory, but my laptop is 2GB max, so it shouldn't be a problem. At the very least, SoundTrax mostly left an AIFF recording file that I could edit for pasting with the included Nero Wave Editor. Tracks and improve the sound. However, as far as I can tell, Wave Editor can't burn a CD, and I haven't yet figured out how to get SoundTrax to use a parsed AIFF file. I have to say that technically I'm not naive. I am a software developer with many years of experience with complex software. This is the software that is ruining my job. By the way, the documentation is completely useless. It just repeats the wizard screens without telling me anything new. I had to try a lot to get something working.
