Trust me, make sure you line up the two alignment holes or you'll be in trouble.

First off I'm a perfectionist so everything I do always takes 3 times longer than usual LOL! I watched the 4 part YouTube video several times before trying to install it. The inside of the installation went perfectly, judging by the video. But that's where the perfection ends. I have very good Milwaukee power tools, so my problems were not caused by a lack of tools. I chose to remove both covers to protect them during installation and to make it easier to close off at the end. 1/4" masonry bit for drilling two holes on the middle sides as guides for the outer template. Sounds easy until you try to drill through wood straight and straight at the same time with a flexible masonry bit. I was able to both holes side to side Side align but the drill was deflected at least 1/4" at an upward angle. This caused serious misalignment issues that needed to be corrected. I was able to use the teeth of a saw to lengthen all 4 holes just enough to fit the outer and inner Align holes. However, this change did not cause any installation problems. Unfortunately, I still had to fix the outer hole as it was too high to properly align the two panels and wall kit. This caused the wall kit to tilt inwards, which I found to be bad in the event of water ingress. I fixed this by cutting off some more of the bottom of the outer hole just like I did with the screws made benlochen. Now all holes, openings and the wall kit are aligned evenly and straight. I opted for a dry fit with no wand kit or screws cut to length. It needed a bit of tweaking, but without the Wandkit I could see what needed to be done. After a good alignment I felt ready to try the wall kit after assembling it and caulking all the seams front and back. Since I've dry installed it a couple of times, everything went smoothly with no issues. My wife outside pushed the door against the wall and made sure all 4 screw holes started with a few turns before tightening. Almost forgot I followed the directions, measured the width of the wall, added 2 5/8" to that gauge thread and a ยผ" nut. after marking but before cutting with a handsaw. After making sure the door worked, was tight and aligned, I made a cardboard corner protector to keep the sealant from getting on the strips or magnets. I used white window and door sealant and applied it around the wall kit inside and out so that if water does get in, it doesn't get into the wall at all. A wider gap needs to be filled on the inner wall kit than on the outer because the wall kit design is not suitable for indoor use due to loose fitting. In addition, before sealing, it must be ensured that the wings swing freely when the wall kit is installed. The left inside was sticking out enough to interfere with free movement so I adjusted it and used sealant to press it more firmly to the frame which meant it stayed in place for several minutes. In place in minutes, it fit well and looked just as good. My thoughts on this set for doors and walls are as follows. The Wandkit is way overpriced, IMO, for what it is. I believe it will sag in a wider wall, my wall was 2x4 so he used the shortest version of the kit which had very little flex once installed. The wall set fits well from the outside, but not so well from the inside. Before caulking, the kit is inserted freely into the hole, allowing water to safely enter the wall if it enters through the door. I don't know how long this door will stand up to the intense sun my house gets in the summer, but time will tell. Cotton loosens over time. In general, if you take your time and have the right tools, you should be able to achieve a solid install without too much trouble. Just try to make sure when you drill the ยผ" holes that you align them well, as the entire installation depends on those two holes. I don't think this kit is worth more than $20 for what it is.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad but...
