Review on Fiskars 375581-1001 Chopping Axe: 28-Inch Black, Premium Quality by Johnathan Delgado

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The big ax is a bit small.

This is a fantastic axe, well designed, well balanced, with good steel holding a sharp edge. The shape of the blade avoids snagging when chopping but still cuts fairly good chunks. The halter is beautiful. I bought it to cut down the roots of trees that I remove. So I cut in the sand. Check out the photo of the blade after a day's slicing in the sand - it looks pristine. I don't know why some people complain about chipping with Fiskars axes. Then why only four stars? Because the optimal length for a chopping ax is about 32 inches unless you are a very short person. I'm just average height. Too small. This would be fine for an emergency ax you keep in the back of your truck for occasional use, but it's just not long enough/big enough. Normally I wouldn't consider the size of an item if I knew what it was beforehand, but they don't even have a bigger axe, which is stunning. You have a 36 inch cleaver, but it's a completely different tool. You REALLY need a 32" cleaver, which is a bit oversized for this little thing. I even wrote to the company and they couldn't explain why their largest helicopter is so small. I also have an ax that I'm happy with.
