I carry it in my flight bag for security and to get ATIS before I start the engine. The reception inside the C172 is also pretty good. I really like the rechargeable battery system and the alkaline battery backup compartment. I get comfort and reliability. And the alkaline battery compartment in my flight bag doubles as a backup for my headset. One piece of advice for in-flight use that I've had to do before in a disconnected situation: just hold it up to your headset's mic. It sounds loud and clear in your ears and in everyone else's ears, like a portable radio connected to an intercom. Yes, you can connect standard headsets directly to this radio. But fiddling with the radio's waterproof side cover and headset adapters is too much unnecessary work in my opinion, after that you still need one hand on the controller for the PTT button. So what's the point.
