Review on 25 Lb Bag Of Royal Canin Adult Dry Dog Food Specifically Formulated For Cocker Spaniels by Robert Olguin

Too hard and too big for older dogs.

My 34 pound cocker seems to be attracted to the food and it came recommended by the vet but the pieces are quite large and EXTREMELY hard. My old guy has few teeth left and his 17 pound sister is just too small to get them in her mouth. Neither was able to crunch the pieces into smaller ones. He was swallowing them whole- not good for his old gut. I tried soaking them in water, beef broth etc but after 10 hours they were still mostly rock hard. I wrapped them in a cloth and smacked them with a 2 pound hammer. The pieces skidded around and emerged mostly intact. but I did get a good cardio workout from it. I even tried the Cuisinart food processor and it was like trying to shred rocks! The machine walked across the counter while trying to cut the kibble into smaller pieces. After many ear splitting minutes, family complaints about noise and still unable to grind/chop the stuff I gave up. Decibel level from dog food was higher than any other tool in the house. I thought about paving the driveway with it but decided to donate $56 of food to the local shelter.

Pros
  • The food made my dogs day. She is now very healthy.
Cons
  • May contain too much fat for some dogs
