Overall I'm happy with it

I've been using it for a few days now and I'm generally happy with it. Screwing it into the derailleur was easy enough, but getting it to work without a chainring took a bit of work. Ultimately it was my fault for not carefully reading the instructions on Paul's website. I mounted it on a cyclocross bike, so my chainring and gears are very different than those on a mountain bike, which is probably where most people wear them. Almost all of my problems stem from the fact that I haven't seen a note on Paul's website that says they recommend "20 tooth chain winding", which means that the chainring is no more than 20 teeth more than the cog should have. If I had known that before I bought it, I probably wouldn't have noticed. I don't have an easy way to do this with the other components I use that have the right gear ratio. I can't rate it, but it's important for anyone considering buying it to be aware. I originally tried to use a 46 tooth chainring and 16 tooth cog. The chain slipped so much that it was impossible to ride a bike. I then replaced the rear wheel with one that had an 18-tooth White Industries freehub. 46/18 seemed to work better but the sprocket to sprocket spacing is still too big and the chain still slips a bit. I shortened the chain a few links and it started jumping less, so I kept shortening it until it stopped jumping. Finally it no longer bounces, but the pulleys are almost horizontal. It rides well and after 60 miles doesn't seem to be a problem, but Paul's website says the configuration is "overstretched" and could potentially damage the Melvin, so I'm hesitant to leave it that way for too long. in the next few days i will swap the sprockets on my other bike and try 42/18. I like this gearing and hope it's close enough to the 20 tooth chain. Overall the product is really well built and set up and I've had no problems getting the chain set up properly, no chain drop issues so far. It's a bit noisy compared to my custom built single speed, but it's no worse than a cassette and derailleur.
