If you want to use an external DAC with your iPhone 7, you'll almost certainly need one of these adapters. Unfortunately, the USB Camera Adapter 2.0 had some issues with some external DACs, most notably the Audioquest Dragonfly Red. The 2.0 had annoying pops and pops after about an hour of listening. I'm happy to report that the new 3.0 adapter works great with no audio issues. The 3.0 adapter has the additional ability to charge when using a USB port with an optional Lightning connector. This solves a major problem with external DACs that draw a lot of power. Now I can put my 100GB of storage to good use with lots of high-resolution music. While I'd give it 5 stars for functionality, I can't ignore the fact that this thing is relatively huge. It also has twice as many wires running through the cable, so it's pretty thick and stiff. Luckily I only use this at home where it doesn't matter, but I don't want to carry it in my pocket with an iPhone. Come on, Apple, $39? 20β¬ would be reasonable.
