Review on Dee Zee DZ91717 Brite-Tread Triangle Trailer Box: Durable and Efficient Storage Solution by Andre Young

This review is a criticism of the packaging and shipping. If these boxes were dropped in transit (usually at the folded corner), the deformation caused problems with laying the square on a flat surface and with the lid banging open and closed. has served me well. When I needed a triangular tongue box for a custom kayak/bike trailer, I first turned to Dee Zee. DZ91717 was perfect for my trailer. The problem is that I can't deliver it to myself without damage. I have tried twice with Revain.com which was shipped via UPS and twice more with autoeverthing.com which was FedEx direct from the Dee Zee factory. I have returned all four units with shipping damage that included damage to one or both corners and/or a warping of the box that either prevented them from standing unstacked on a flat surface or the back was warped in and out when the lid or top was open. There was sticking to the corner when opening/closing, or a combination of these issues. All of the aluminum boxes showed clear signs of impact on one or more corners. The shipping boxes that arrived from UPS looked like they had been thrown off a roof before being pushed down a mountain. These shipping boxes were practically destroyed upon arrival. All but one were fully open, revealing their contents. It goes without saying that most products will not stand up to extremely rough treatment. The two FedEx boxes were less damaged, but the aluminum boxes still had damage, leading me to conclude the packaging methods could have been better. I reported this to autoeverything.com customer service prior to the final delivery and they agreed to speak to DeeZee about packaging methods, pre-shipment inspections and possibly adding shipping carton labels such as 'FRAGILE' or 'HANDLE WITH CARE'. Nothing has changed with the last box, which was the best of the bunch with a folded corner and minimal deformation when opening and closing. However, new means new and the item must arrive in like-new condition. I emailed Dee Zee and they said they were investigating packaging issues with this item. After four unsuccessful attempts I could not receive an undamaged box. I would give the box four stars for quality and usefulness if it arrived intact. I still need the tongue box but that doesn't seem like a viable option until they sort out their packaging and shipping issues.
